Makita 5094DWD 14.4-volt NiMH 3-3/8-inch Cordless Circular Saw

Here's a saw packing the power of Makita and the convenience of cordless, the best of both worlds. It's incredibly light and a cinch to handle, and at 4.6 pounds, it's easy on the body. All the adjustments are clear and easy to change. Makita's batteries have a great reputation for good reason—they deliver plenty of power and hold their charge. This little saw is so versatile, we can imagine using it for dozens of things: cutting sheets, trim, rows of dowels for crafters, flooring, you name it. It evens bevels to 45 degrees—we think that's a great feature for such a small package. The clever design leaves it feeling totally balanced in your hand. You'll find yourself reaching for it instead of the standard 7-inch saw, and it will get the job done.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste

Milwaukee 0602-22 12-Volt Ni-Cad 3/8-Inch Cordless Driver/Drill Kit

Quite possibly, this is the world's best 12-volt drill. When you first pick it up, you don't expect much: It's light and amazingly compact. But wrap your hand around the cushioned, soft-grip, non-slip handle and squeeze the comfortable, rubberized trigger, and you're packing so much torque--280 inch/pounds—-that we defy you not to shout "Oh yeah!" First, we love the size. It's so smartly designed and built that you'll be able to work in the tight spots other drills can only dream about. We have no beef with the tough plastic housing, because it definitely contributes to the light weight. The battery design is a stroke of genius because it enables you to insert the battery with the overlap to the front OR the back, so you can tailor the shape of your drill to your workspace. Another nice feature is the ease with which the battery goes on and off—-we've struggled more than we care to admit with batteries on other drills. In the power department, you can't beat this tough guy. It maxes at an impressive 1,400 rpm, and none of the vibration ends up in your bones. Add to all of that the nifty Clip-Lok storage hanger, and you cannot help but love this drill.--Kris Jensen-Van Heste
